Comparison of Two Finite-Permeability Subdomain Models for Surface-Mounted Permanent-Magnet Machines

Subdomain models have been widely used to quickly model the fields and torque of surface-mounted permanent-magnet machines (SMPMMs). Nevertheless, when magnetic saturation occurs, those which assume permeability iron parts be infinite tend inaccurate. More recently, two types developed that take finite into account, but a comparison is still lacking. This article compares subdomain SMPMMs. In stator teeth slots first model, boundary conditions are in both radial tangential directions. second change as function angle slot modeled using Fourier series Cauchy product solve Maxwell’s equations. this study, calculation different SMPMMs shows can handle with low high numbers teeth. study error has sensitivity parameter changes, while accuracy heavily depends on parameters. For higher permeability, less accurate. Both achieve prediction at faster speed than element model. The needs only few harmonics accuracy.
